What is the meaning of tranquility?
The dictionary definition given to this word “Tranquility” is the state of being free from troubles: a high condition.
What about someone who has achieved such a state? This person is said to have been in a wonderful life.
And why do we need to feel so good? Because being happy and doing good things are beneficial not just for our souls, but also for our health and well-being.
So, when you achieve that state you don’t have everything you want? Do you still feel tired, stressed or depressed?
But, indeed, we can’t achieve such an ideal state all the time, for which some difficulties will always come up, and there are sometimes when we will face setbacks, but in those cases, we should never forget what brought us here and try to take advantage of opportunities.
Now, let’s talk about tranquility itself. I know that at first reading this word you would think of things that relate to the tranquility that makes a lot of sense, but if you look more closely you’ll find out that tranquility means more than that. It’s the way we behave, live and interact with the world around us. When we choose how to share ourselves, we will be able to see how people react towards us, whether they are grateful, if they are hateful, or even try to manipulate and control us. The more we behave in these ways, the less effective we’ll be able to become (or maintain).
As Aristotle said, man should strive not to seek his “fatal end”, because he wants happiness and freedom forever. And this is exactly how we can change ourselves for the better and move on in life; we must learn how to become happier and freer to enjoy life and its joys. Thus, Martin Buber thoughts, he wrote that we should not just accept everything that fate puts before us. We must act against them. As John F. Kennedy once said :
“You take one step forward, but you take two steps back. Take the initiative, not the other way round.”
Let me explain. Let’s assume that your current relationships with others are bad, or that some circumstances have made you unhappy, and this makes you angry and bitter, but not able to do anything about it. Now you’ll think: why do so many good people choose such bad paths? I believe it comes down to one thing. They just didn’t realize they were destined to go that path. Each choice we make is a kind of decision, a big personal one, that has the potential to change the trajectory of our lives. To say the truth, you never really know in advance what’s going to happen or in which direction you will turn next, thus, sometimes unexpected things can happen, therefore it’s never too late to start making amends. But what I’m referring to in my example above is the problem of not recognizing that there may be reasons for things happening in your life to go the way that they do, and to recognize that maybe they weren’t meant for you, perhaps even more so than you thought. Therefore, I can tell you that no matter how small the chance may seem, don’t take the initiative yourself. Don’t just complain or ask for help, because then you’ll only regret it later when things have already turned out differently. Instead of complaining you should instead focus on working hard to get where you want to go, and on improving and developing yourself to become a stronger, stronger person. And I’ll leave you with this interesting quote from Paulo Coelho :
“The greatest success is simply not trying. It’s the willingness to succeed that differentiates the great from the rest.”
